The UEA’s report, ‘Invisible Innovators', making women filmmakers visible across the UK’s Film Archives is now available. It has been commissioned by Film Archives UK to explore the current scale and scope of the holdings of women’s amateur filmmaking within the regional and national film and media archives and to investigate ways of optimising their visibility. 6.3.20

London’s Screen Archives are hosting a Screen Heritage Conference, taking place on 24 November 2017.
Archivists, academics, researchers and archive film professionals will gather at the Museum of London to explore the learnings and outcomes of our three-year Heritage Lottery funded project, London: A Bigger Picture.
The project allowed Londoners in 15 outer boroughs to discover the history of their area on film through screenings and events, and encouraged people to share their home movies and other films with their local archives, helping us to build a bigger picture of London’s past. By the end of the project, LSA had collected over 350 hours of footage from across London, held over 240 screenings, and attracted audiences of over 37,000 people.
The conference will look at these successes, with a series of case studies and presentations to share best practice.
Sessions on the day will cover a range of topics, including the challenges associated with collecting footage, the ethics of collecting in the digital age, and best practice in audience outreach and development.
The event will also reach beyond the Bigger Picture project to discuss general topics including diversity in the industry, training the next generation of archivists, and the future of film archives. Panels will be chaired by Geoff Pick (Director of London Metropolitan Archives) with welcome addresses from Sharon Ament (Director of Museum of London) and Adrian Wootton OBE (CEO of Film London and the British Film Commission).
