FAUK fly the flag at FOCAL FESTIVAL!

 

Film Archives UK were well represented at the inaugural FOCAL International Festival of Archives 

This new industry event which took place at King’s Place, Kings Cross, London on 16th June, brought together archive and footage licensing professionals to explore commercial licensing, restoration, preservation, and the future of archive storytelling. There were opportunities to meet leading exhibitors, hear from industry experts and connect with archives, researchers, producers, and creators.
FAUK Trustee Simon Clark moderated a panel session entitled ‘Regional Archives: Value and Viability: Sustaining and Sharing Unique Stories’ with guests Geoff Senior (North West Film Archive), Graham Relton (Yorkshire and North East Film Archive) and Amy Keegan (London’s Screen Archives). It was a great opportunity to share how regional archives work, discuss some of the challenges, and also a chance to promote the wonderful film legacy that we are custodians of.

“Now more than ever, we need to champion the UK public film archive sector, and advocate for the value of screen heritage in a changing cultural and funding landscape. The FOCAL International Festival of Archives was a great forum to have meaningful dialogue about our work and talk about the challenges of commercialising the collections whilst staying true to our values. A packed room of a 100+, we reached new audiences and the discussions triggered even more conversations after the panel ended. Sharing a platform with fellow Film Archive UK partners, Amy, Geoff and Simon was a real pleasure, as a collective it’s important that the voice of the UK not-for-profit film archives is heard loud and clear, we are stronger together!”

Graham and NWFA’s Geoff Senior also shared an exhibitors’ table to talk about their work and Collections to Archive Producers, other archives, digitisation/restoration companies and other sector colleagues.
